ITER location decided

“...Today we are making history in terms of international scientific cooperation...”, said EU Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik on 28th June 2005. After long and difficult negotiations, the six parties to the international negotiations on the ITER fusion research project, meeting in Moscow, have decided that ITER should be located at the site proposed by the EU - Cadarache in southern France.

Objective

The objective of the Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) is to exchange information on design, construction and operation of fusion experiments and on the technology for present fusion machines, the next step and power plants. It includes oral and poster presentations as well as an industrial and R & D exhibition. The ITER construction project is expected to be a significant theme of this SOFT.

Language

The working language of the SOFT is English.

Experimental Fusion Devices.
B
Plasma Heating and Current Drive.
C
Plasma Engineering and Control.
D
Diagnostics, Data Acquisition and Remote Participation.
E
Magnets and Power Supplies.
F
Plasma Facing Components.
G
Vessel/Vessel-in Engineering and Remote Handling.
H

Abstracts of Contributed Papers

Authors were invited to submit one page abstracts on any of the above topics.(One abstract per participant only). The deadline for the receipt of abstracts was 27th March 2006. The abstract must summarise the aim, the methodology and the results of the work. The main achievements should be described clearly in order to allow evaluation of the scientific merits of the paper. Abstract submission was on-line only.

Paper selection

Selection of papers for oral and poster presentation was based on the evaluation of the abstract, which was undertaken by the International Organising Committee. Accepted abstracts could be found at the following page

Contributed Papers

The presenting authors were informed of acceptance or rejection of their abstracts by 22nd May 2006. Detailed instructions for the preparation of the manuscript, the requirements for poster and oral presentations were sent with the notification of acceptance of the paper. Manuscripts of full-length papers were to be submitted by 18th August 2006 to allow for the peer review process.

Please be sure to carefully follow Poster preparation instructions.

Invited Papers

A number of eminent persons were invited to present papers at the Symposium to provide overviews of topical subjects or in-depth reviews of outstanding new results. Please check the names and titles in the Symposium Programme.

Proceedings

Invited and contributed papers will, subject to peer review and evaluation, be published by Elsevier in a special edition of Fusion Engineering and Design. The special edition of the SOFT Proceedings will be mailed to each participant without further cost.
